As the sun starts to set on Fall and we begin to move into the winter season here in Idaho, we become a little more limited when it comes to the activities that we can do in our free time. Outdoor recreation changes from hiking and camping to skiing and building snowmen and the cold weather leads people to spend more time inside. However, there are still plenty of DIY home improvement projects you can do to keep you occupied during the winter months; here are some of our favorites!

Get a fresh look in your living space

One of the easiest ways to completely change the feel of a room? Repaint it! Even going a shade darker than what you currently have or making an accent wall can be a real difference maker. When painting a room yourself, the most important thing is the planning beforehand. Try to get an idea of what you want the space to look like, go to your nearest home improvement store and browse the color options, and get the right tools for the job. If you don’t have much painting experience, there are great guides all over the internet.

Upgrade your bathroom fixtures

Over time, the fixtures in your home will collect bacteria and other debris, all which can hinder your water pressure. You can clean them yourself, or you can buy all new fixtures if you really want to spice things up. Nowadays there are many options to choose from, so be sure to do your research on the types of materials and styles to find the set that you want. This is a pretty simple DIY project, but it can significantly change your and your guests’ bathroom experience!

Renovate a room

Winter is a great time to renovate a room in your home! Whether it’s as simple as knocking down a wall to create a more open living area or as complex as completely redoing your kitchen, getting a renovation started during the colder months ensures that it will be done and ready to entertain in time for the spring. If you don’t have the funding to do some of those larger renovations, you may be able to qualify for a VA Home Loan that can be used for the construction.
